First Giveaway!
This giveaway is now closed! Thank you to all who entered. I will be going through the comments today and tomorrow and picking a winner. If I contact you, please get back to me asap! Thanks again!
To try to get some visitors here to the Recipe Box, I decided to take part in The Bloggy Giveaways’ Quarterly Carnival. This is going to be simple, but I’d like to make it a little fun to.
First, here’s what I’d like to give away to one lucky reader:
$15 Cooking.com e-card
Now, I’m one of those people that isn’t big on a lot of rules or conditions for entering a giveaway, so in order to enter, just leave a comment. However, here’s what you can do for a second entry (be sure to leave a second comment so it can count as a second entry.*):
Tell me about your recipe box. Was it handed down from your family? Is it personalized? Did you make it yourself? Or is it just special because it houses your most loved recipes? Let’s hear about it! (I’d love to see some neat ones too, if you feel like sharing
)
Or tell me about your favorite recipe, and why it’s your favorite.
For yet another entry – if you just happen to love TRB so much that you want to come back, and bring some friends – link The Recipe Box (the blog, not this one entry) on your blog. Leave a separate entry telling me you’ve done so and let me know where to find it.
(Want a button?)
* to keep this fair, if you got to leave an addtional comment and deserve your extra entry, I will add it/them, to the end. For example: there are 100 comments/entries but there should be 101 because you forgot one, I will draw from 101 entries. Make sense?)
So here it is again:
First, you don’t need to have a blog to enter. Just have a valid email address (For safety, don’t leave your email address in the comment field. Just be sure it’s correct in the email address field
)
For one entry, leave a comment. Any ol’ comment will do.
For additional entries, tell me about your recipe box and or favorite recipe (these count as one entry). Linking to TRB will earn you an extra entry as well.
*Update* – Unfortunately, Cooking.com only ships to addresses served by the USPS, and APO/FPO addresses, so this giveaway isn’t open to international addresses (unless you have a USPS address to ship to).
Easy enough, right? So get to it!
When you’re done, head on over to The Bloggy Carnival and enter a ton more giveaways! (Oh, and I’m giving away a couple snack packs at All That Blooms)

I dont really have very many recipes that have been handed down and I am always looking for new ones so I dont really have a special recipe box. However in realizing that my Grandparents and Parents are getting older and I would like to get some old family recipes one of my goals this year is to make a recipe box for myself and gather all those delicious recipes that have been tried and prove to be so good!
Thanks again for the giveaway,
Elizabeth

January 26th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
My recipe box is a Word file on my computer containing all the recipes I stole from my Mom when I moved across the country last year. I still call her up and have her read me new ones to enter into the file occasionally.
January 26th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
Nice giveaway, I dont have a receipe box I wing it most times
January 26th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
I am another person who loves seeing the old faded cards with my grandmother’s handwriting along with her “from the kitchen of…” and a name I never know. Great giveaway!
January 27th, 2009 at 12:53 am
I love your blog. My favorite recipe is currently my pecan praline cookies. It’s an old family recipe (I sell them on toribell.etsy.com) and I never get tired of making them!
Feel free to visit my blog – I have 2 giveaways right now!
January 27th, 2009 at 1:15 am
Me thinks I could use that card to get something to post about on my own blog!

And for my second entry
, my “recipe box” is actually a folder that my mom gave me when I moved out on my own. She started it off with some recipes, and I’ve added a ton more as I’ve gotten older.
January 27th, 2009 at 8:21 am
I have an old oak recipe box handed down from my grandma. If I look at it, it makes me tear up!

January 27th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
Ooh, I’m dreaming of the kitchen gadgets I could use that for.
January 27th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
My recipe box is an index card file with recipes on index cards that I copied out of my mom’s recipe box. My website is quickly becoming my recipe box though… if I’ve found something I plan on making again, I find myself pulling it off the site rather than writing a new card to put in my recipe box.
January 27th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
cool contest i love cooking.com
January 27th, 2009 at 12:23 pm

This is my first entry. Please enter me!
January 27th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Second entry:
We have such a multiplicity of recipe sources, it’s nuts. A three-ring binder full of laminated recipes from magazines, two journal type books with writing in them (maybe three?), a stack of Cooks Illustrated magazines…I could go on and on. I also have a small collection of vintage tin recipe boxes.
January 27th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
Fun prize for cooks and bakers!
January 27th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
I actually don’t have a recipe box, I use a recipe binder. Each week I print all my recipes and then at the end of the week I only keep the ones we loved.
January 27th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
I’m having so much fun making friends and blog-hopping again this year. Thanks for such a generous giveaway! I hope I’m chosen as the lucky winner!!!r
January 27th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
my recipe box is more like a recipe binder with torn pages from magazines, tattered old pages, and handwritten recipes from family and friends
January 27th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
My recipe box is more like a book. My grandmother made it for me several years ago. It has plastic pages that hold recipe cards. Although it is full i add to it by inserting cards in the side panel. I love it.
January 27th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
Thanks for the giveaway!
January 27th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
Our recipe box is a box of big mish-mashed index cards. I tried to organize it for my mom one year by putting everything in a binder and separating recipes by type, but it was hopeless!
January 27th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
What a nice giveaway!
January 27th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
My recipe box was my mom’s.

January 27th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
I got my recipe box for a wedding shower gift. It had a few recipes in it from ladies at the shower, but I have added to it. I especially treasure those written by family members who have since passed on. Lovely memories.
January 27th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
Great contest. Cooking.com has tons of great deals on stuff that every chef should have. I’ve ordered from them before with very satisfying results. Thanks!
January 27th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
My recipe box isn’t a box, persay. It’s a 3″ – 3 ring binder. I take photo album pages (the ones with the sticky back) and I clip or copy all the great recipes I find. I’ve collected thousands! I haven’t tried all of them but I do set aside one dinner a week that is brand new from one of my recipes. Maybe someday I’ll get a better system but this works for now. Thanks!

This would be a really great gift for my wife. She is an excellent cook. Thank you.
January 27th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
My recipe book is a notebook left by my grandmother. Besides the notebook, my mom has stuffed her recipes inside the book. Unfortunately, a lot of the recipes are in spanish so it takes me forever to figure them out.
January 28th, 2009 at 12:08 am
This card would be put to good use. I cannot stop buying kitchen gadgets!
January 28th, 2009 at 12:49 am

January 28th, 2009 at 11:50 am
I’m in the middle of moving my recipes from a jumbled-up pile to a ring binder with plastic page sleeves. Hopefully I won’t have to search all the time for the recipe I need!
January 28th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
My favorite recipe is one that only my grandmother ever made…they were cookies. never ever had any like it before or since! We always called them “grandma cookies”. She passed away and no one ever had the recipe. This christmas my mother managed to find the recipe from an aunt and made those cookies as a surprise! I almost cried! she has been gone 8 years. Now I have a copy of the recipe to hand down…best present in the world.

My recipe box is a bamboo one my brother gave me as a gift when I was a teen. I got some pretty little cards and carefully copied many of mom’s recipes down into it, as well as ones I knew and loved from my own experimenting. I love that box… though on the long move from AK, it’s joints broke. I need to re-glue and it will last me a long time in my own home!

thanks for this wonderful giveaway
January 28th, 2009 at 5:39 pm
My recipe box is nothing fancy but it holds lots and lots of my family’s favorite recipes. Some are newer and some are from family members who have passed away. I now have a new favorite “recipe box” though it is not actually a box. My daughter was born with a congenital heart defect and our support group put together a cookbook in which I submitted all my recipes. Now I have a quick and easy book to go to when I need a recipe!
January 28th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
Oooh, I love recipes & am thrilled to have found you!
January 28th, 2009 at 5:44 pm
I don’t have a true recipe box, instead I have gabs of purchased cookbooks & a few folders full of printouts (complete w/handwritten notes from me). My mom did copy all of her recipes for me, just this Christmas, so I can finally make a few things the “right” way like cucumber salad, etc… They just didn’t taste ‘right’ until I made them her way.
January 28th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
please enter me. this is great!
January 28th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
for Christmas my mom actually put together a recipe box for me that was really cool. It is a photo album and she put our favorite family recipes on cards that would fit in the photo slots. She also put in pictures from our childhood of us cooking with her or my grandma. It is a really great way to keep recipes
January 28th, 2009 at 6:04 pm
Cool, cool.

My recipe box belonged to my maternal grandmother who passed away when I was 16. Some of my most prized possessions are a few of her hand-written recipes for the most delicious southern food I’ve ever tasted. Thanks for the chance to win!
January 28th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
I’m cooking more because of the economy and this would be a big help. Thank you for the giveaway.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
My recipe box is an old hershey’s recipe box. Its been in the family so long I’m not sure where it came from. My favorite recipe is called Cybisco. It is a noodle dish passed down for generations.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Cool giveaway! I could always use more things for my kitchen.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
My fav recipe is for salisbury steak with mushroom gravy. It’s so yummy and easy, real comfort food. I always serve it with mashed potatoes, which makes it even better.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Good giveaway! Thanks for the chance.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
I got rid of my recipe box a LONG time ago. It used to be a cheap beige plastic one that we were required to purchase for Grade 8 Home Ec. I always hated that thing. I finally took all of the recipes out of it, typed them into my computer, and then printed them into a useful format.
Thanks so much for the giveaway.

January 28th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
Okay, I have put together my own recipe box. It contains some of the recipes my Mom invented, but many, many of my own. I have always been a vegetarian, so my family made up a lot of our own dishes…because vegetarian shouldn’t equal tasteless. But, I have different tastes than my parents. I used to think I didn’t like Chinese food (we didn’t go out to eat!) until I realized that it doesn’t always consist of brown rice, soy sauce, horseradish, and cashews. I have delved into more ethnic foods and my husband loves it!
January 29th, 2009 at 12:35 am
Thanks so much for the awesome give-oh-way!

My recipe box is one that I’ve had for 3 years now. My uncle is a woodworker(retired) and every Christmas he makes the ladies in the family something……I’ve gotten a serving tray, my recipe box, lots of outdoor decorations, a watering can(yes made of wood) and he personalizes them all. Mine has sunflowers beneath a coat of varnish with my name on it as well. It’s very special to me!

My more current recipes are all in recipe notebook. And then I have my cookbooks. All of these are on bookshelves in the living room.

I have printed off a copy for myself and continue to my binder. I don’t have a recipe box yet, but I saw some really cute recipe cards that looked like a scrapbooked / collage sort of thing. I’ve been inspired to make some, but I haven’t quite figured out the best way to store them.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
My recipe box, well , it is my Mom’s. When I was a kid I bought a new one and took my Moms and gave her the one I bought. I copied all her recipes and put them in my box. I never asked her, but just did it and that wasn’t like me at all. I think it was because I loved her so much and wanted something of hers, plus I thought the box was neat! I am going to ask her if she remembers this the next time she comes over.

My Recipe Box is a jewelry box that my 5 year old granddaughter painted herself and decorated with little wood flowers and put to grandma love Grace on the inside. That is now my very special recipe box. Than she made me another because she said I needed one for my coupons.

My mom actually made me a binder of all of our favorite family recipes when I got married. I refer to it all the time!
January 30th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
I have no idea where or how I came by my love of cooking and my ability to cook nearly anything well. Near as my family can tell – there were no competent cooks on either side of our family until this generation. I have a sister who is also a great cook – though she swears she learned some of her skills from me, I don’t think so.

My recipe box (well, I have 3) are all a combination of many things. Some were written out for me at my bridal showers, some were given to me by students for our classroom cookbooks & others are ripped out of magazines or printed offline & glued onto recipe cards…it’s a hodgepodge really
January 30th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Thanks for a wonderful giveaway! I love to cook and would put this gift certificate to good use.
January 30th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
My recipe box is jam-packed with handwritten recipes (some from my grandmother, some from friends, some I’ve found), recipes cut from magazines and newspapers and some neatly written on recipe cards (I think those were pre-kids when I had time). It is a mess, but I know where the recipes are!
January 30th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
My recipe box isn’t anything special, just a collection of recipes I’ve put together over the years. I do have some great recipes from my grandma’s in there. They’re my favorites:-)

My recipe box was my mother’s. It may have even been my grandmother’s. It’s that antique avacado green, but it’s special because my mom gave it to me.

I have hundreds of cookbooks, computerized recipes, a 3 ring binder, a box of newspaper and magazine recipes and one lonely little cedar recipe box. I think the box was one my mom picked up at a tourist place when she was on vacation.

Thanks for the giveaway!
January 30th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
I started my recipe box when I took a cooking class in school. Have added alot to it.

Thanks for the giveaway!
January 30th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
My recipe box is just a plastic index card box, and my recipes are all on plain 4×6 index cards (I either cut them out and tape them to the card, or handwrite the recipe directly on the card). That way I don’t have 100 different-sized papers… and you can always find index cards!
January 30th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
I truly enjoy cooking and would love to win this

My recipe box is very special to me because it’s my grandmothers. When she passed away it was given to my mother who in turn gave it to me when I moved into my own home. It’s just a chipped green metal box with a hinge but the hand written recipe cards inside are precious. Thanks!

Unfortunately I do not come from a family of cooks.
January 30th, 2009 at 11:47 pm

January 31st, 2009 at 12:19 am
I don’t really have a recipe box, just a lot of cookbooks and binders and folders on a shelf. It works though.
Thanks!

My favorite recipe is one I found in Family Circle magazine about 15 years ago. It is for pork meatballs with oriental seasoning. They can be made small for appetizers or larger as an entree. I think they are good cold as well as hot.

My favorite recipe is this: Cabbage egg noodles
Cut up 1 sweet onion in 2 tbsp. butter, saute this for a few min.
Add a head of green cabbage chopped up in the pot.,add 4 tbsp. butter . boil some egg noodles in another pot. When the cabbage is tender addd the cooked egg noodles and salt and pepper, stir up and this is a really tasty cheap food. My grandma gave me this recipe, she said everyone who used to go to her house requested this. Thanks
